LAST DAY! :) :) :)

Yay last day of clinic! :)
Alyse and I cleaned each other's teeth today, so this morning was pretty easy. i Passed off my desensitization and infection control PE's that I had no idea we had to do 2 of them until today!
I brought in a class 3 patient this afternoon that Tiffany had already started. I just had to clean 3 quads. I passed off my curved ultra sonic PE on her. She wasn't too bad, but I missed a couple of spots on the mandibular anteriors because i was not using enough lateral pressure.
I also got to practice LA one more time before boards! Her landmarks were a little different, so I had to go more lingually on the IA so I didn't have osseous contact.

LA mockboards

Today was LA mockboards. I had my mom come in as my patient. I passed the IA just fine, but failed the PSA. My window was not up! I still don't feel very great the PSA's, but Emily let me do some LA on her patient. I need all the practice I can get! I did the entire maxilla, so I got practice 2 more times on the PSA.

My board patient came in the afternoon. I did a full mouth and bwx on him with the scanx. I also finished his OD and UR,UL quads. He has been reliable so far, so hopefully he just shows up for boards and i'm good!

My class 2 patient cancelled on my this morning. I didnt really need him as a requirement, but I barely found someone to fill his spot! Alyse had an extra patient. She was a 1B and needed a couple of sealants. She had braces and I have never had a patient with braces! it was a little bit of a challenge with all of those brackets and wires. I used the rc/tp with the bristles and a floss threader. It was a good experience.
I had my last 1A this afternoon, so it was a pretty easy day:)
There are only a couple days left to schedule, so hopefully I can fit everyone in that I need to fill my requirements!
I need to get my board patient in here for x-rays.....

It was mockboards today and I barely got a patient at the last minute! When she got here I wasn't sure if she would qualify but she did! I scaled her UL quad and added 3 teeth to make sure. I used LA which I think is very useful and made my job a lot easier. I ended up missing 3 spots and they were burnished calculus and so hard to remove. With the 3 spots i still passed as long as i didn't mess anything else up!

My a.m. patient was just my class 2. I had already done the OD so I just had to finsish scaling. I missed quite a few small spots that were so hard to remove! Hopefully my board pt has calculus that is pretty easy to remove!
I thought I had a possible board patient, but I just found out today that the # is disconnected, so I'm freakin out again!
I have 1 and maybe 2 screenings friday, so i hope i find them!

My patient was a class 2. He had a lot of calculus that was just impossible to remove! I feel like I scaled and scaled and it just would not come off. I basically missed every interproximal spot. Instructor wold said that i was just not going interproximal and deep enough. I only got one quad done, so i will have to bring him back to finish.

I had two patients scheduled for this afternoon and neither one showed up! Luckily Jackie had an extra patient. He was just a 1B, but it was nice to at least have a patient. He was pretty easy, but had really sensitive teeth!

I keep hoping for a board patient to magically come along, but it just doesn't. I had a class 2 patient. I used the scanx again to take his bwx. I really love the scanx for bwx, I just didn't like it for a full mouth. It is quick and the films are small and easy to fit in the mouth. My next patient was a class V and class 1B. He would have normally been easy, but he didn't speak english and I could not get him to hold his mouth open! And he would fight me with his lip on the mandibular anteriors!

snowday??

Well, I was hoping for a snowday but that didn't happen. They did cancel evening classes, but that doesn't really make a difference to me! I'm actually just happy my first patient showed! I did a fmx and 4 bwx on the scanx. I had no idea how to use it, so janell helped me out:) We didn't realize that there was a special xcp holder for the scanx full mouth, so it made it a little difficult. The films would not stay in the holder! The only thing I didn't like about the scanx is it felt like it took forever to rearrange and mount the films. My afternoon patient did not show of course! His car got stuck in the snow! I helped Amber out with x-rays and arrestin.

Well, scratch that last part.....my 1b just no showed on me too! so no patients all day:( I tried calling a bunch of patients that tori gave me.....i tried my brother and my niece and no luck!

My spanish speaking patient never got confirmed.......HMMM? So i came in this morining and found out that he had the flu. He was a possible board patient so i was bummed, but he is coming in next tuesday. I just have a 1b this afternoon, so it will be easy. I think I may try the scanx on my bitewings. I have no idea how to use it, so hopefully someone can show me!

Well, it was mockboards today. Everything was kind of messed up! 5 people were signed up for the morning and 10 for the afternoon, so we didn't have many people to help us out. We just kept our patients in their same chair for the examiner check. I could not find a mockboard pt for the life of me, so i brought my husband in just to get the experience. It would have been nice to have a pt with the calculus so that they could qualify and i would get my points, but what else can i do!? I'm just hoping i can find a 2nd mockboard and boards!

I have not had much luck with my patients lately:(. I had two scheduled and both cancelled. I rescheduled two more and my morning cancelled! I do have an afternoon that was a class 3 last time. I guess ill just study this morning and hope for something good after lunch!

this morning i had a 1b. he was pretty easy, but he was late, so i had to rush! I also had a 1a and a finished up my 4 today! it was stressful for sure... I missed a few spots on my class 4 patient. All of them were really subgingivally, so alexander had me get out my gracey minis and they worked perfect!

My morning patient did not show:( but michelle helped me out and gave me one of her patients. she was just a 1b, but better to have someone in my chair than none! My afternoon patient was a 4 so that was great! i got 4 bwx and gave her an IA which was difficult because she didnt have any of her molars. My instructor had to show me how to feel for the location. I also gave her to mental injections. she was missing some teeth so i was able to finish 2 quads.

My mom came in this morning. I feel a little more comfortable starting off with someone i know! She was a 1b. she had very little calculus and plaque, so it was a pretty quick appt. I gave her nitrous which took a little more time. i gave her .5 liters and she could already feel it and didn't want to turn it up any more.
My afternoon patient cancelled just before the appt:( , so i guess i'll get some studying done...... I swear my patient always cancels on the first day just to stress me out!!

I am CA today. I have 3 down and only 1 to go in the spring semester. Its kind of a long slow day, but gotta get it done. I have a make-up day at the VA tomorrow and then off for the whole weekend for thanksgiving! I have 5 quads of a class 3 left. I'm hoping with the extra day at the VA and my last patient I will finish my requirements for the semester......

My patient did not show this morning. 2 hours after his appointment was supposed to start he showed! I only had enough time to do an OD, and he ended up being 3 quads of a class 4. I resheduled him for my last week of clinic. I took 4 BWX and on tooth number #19 you could see condensing osteitis...it was pretty cool. I also had a class 5 today, so I just tried to pass off some PE's.

Yay! I got a class 3 today.... I found alot of calculus on the entire buccal and lingual surfaces. He was very compliant, so that helped. I was hoping for some LA, but he didn't need it. I finished him up and i am SLOWLY moving along on my class 3's. The afternoon was pretty easy, because I had a class 5. I did get a couple of PA's on her. She has low blood glucose levels, so I did a glucose test on her and the results were normal.

In lab this morning we learned how to handle emergency situations and also learned about desensitization and subgingival irrigation....pretty exciting! I also worked on a class 5 patient which i didn't really need, because i have more than triple my requirements! i did get 8 PA's on her though which i did need:) It was a little tough to get the x-rays, because of her mandibular tori.

Well I was thinking my first pt would be a class 2 or 3 and she ended up being a 5. But in the afternoon I got a 1a which i needed and placed 10 sealants! So i passed off my sealant PE and my air powder polish. I accomplished a little today. yay!
